“Left Turn”
Mixed Media Paintings by Carolyn Cohen

Art Show July 15, 2022 - August 24, 2022

“I love the feel of putting paint on canvas, whether it’s a blank canvas or a used one. Each has its appeal to me for different reasons. I feel that the world is before me when beginning with a beautiful blank canvas — that anything is possible. I paint because it’s fun and challenging!” says Cohen. To achieve her desired effects Cohen employs a wide variety of techniques including large and small paintbrushes, mono printing, and collage with fine pencil or charcoal.

“I was bitten by the Art Bug at around age 10 while desperately trying to emulate my older much adored cousin who loved to draw. We would lie on my bed and copy newspaper ads for hours!”

During high school Cohen attended art classes offered through Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. During her career, Cohen taught art in Massachusetts and Vermont, and then received a certification and masters to teach 4th grade art in New Fairfield, Connecticut before retiring in 2001. Since her retirement Cohen’s work has continued to change and evolve. Cohen is a member of Kent Art Association, Sherman Artists, and New Milford's Gallery 25.

Cohen’s artwork is currently on display at the Sherman Library through August 24 , 2022. The Sherman Library art gallery is open to patrons Tuesday-Saturday 12:00-4:00pm. Contact the library at SLPrograms@biblio.org or 860-354-2455 to purchase a piece.
